Review:

spent most of the time compositing the image, rather than painting on top of it.

I exported a few render passes from Vray and comped them in nuke. It’s a really messy workflow because I was experimenting a lot, but the actual paintover in photoshop was pretty quick and dirty as you will see in the image below.

I wish I could break down a bit more the process with images, but it’s really messy :). Basically I comped this color layer on top of a lighting pass and then added the reflection pass on top of those two.
